Latvian society's perceptions of
the
image of Death
Project research made for my bachelor’s thesis called
"Creative work – creation of photomontages about
Latvian society's ideas about death and dying"
This project currently consists of 10 photomontages that explore how latvians in the 21st century percieve the image of death. The data needed to make photomontages were taken from interviews of research paticipants where they were asked open ended questions that let them describe what they think without the interviewer placing a specific image in their heads of how Death is traditionally described. The interviewed persons perceptions of Death varied according to their own beliefs (religion, philosophy etc.).
This project is a completely new experience since I was working in a style that I haven’t fully tried before even though I have done collage works before. I had to not rely on photo filters, effects and drawn elements (as I would usually do) to make these pieces. For this project I was taking some bits of inspiration from various collage artists.
